18

The girl turns 18 in Feb. 18. I remember when she was 8 weeks old and we fled from our home in California after her father tried to kill us and wound up here in Vegas. I remember when she was 8 months old and starting to walk. I remember when she was 8 years old and cuddled me all the time... sometimes, she still cuddles me.

I want to take her on a trip, just her and I, in March (during spring break). First I thought of Mexico, but that was nixed when I mentioned it to my father and he informed me that people were being kidnapped and killed. So, I thought, New York City. But, she asked, "what will we do there"... I had thought we could go see Good Morning America in person and Live with Regis and Kelly and maybe a Broadway show. The first two things are really what "I" want to do, the Broadway show is something she would enjoy... but, it looks like NYC might be out of the running cause really - what WOULD we do there? I'm not able to do much walking due to my foot and cabs are simply to expensive to take every where...

So, Bloggyland, here's my question... Where should I take the girl? Some place not to expensive, some place with things to do (Disney World and Disneyland are out). We've spent plenty of time in California so that's out. She hates Arizona, so Sedona is out and I dislike Florida, so that is out too. I mentioned a dude ranch in Wyoming or Montana, though while we both like to horseback ride, there's only so much of that we can do and I don't want a working vacation, like herding cows or something like that.

This trip will be about 5 days long. I need help. Suggestions, suggestions, suggestions... all suggestions will be well thought out and responded to.

So, give me your best!

Come to Philadelphia. It's full of historic value, the food, clubs, and sights are out of this world. There is plenty to do, if you like shows the Academy of Music will take you breathe away. Congrats, you are now the mother of an adult child ! UGH

I personally love Philadelphia. The historical monuments and smells and sights are wonderful. I'm just not sure she would enjoy them as much as me. But, I'm going to look further into Philly as I will other places that some might suggest... perhaps letting her make the final decision?

Oh and I'm already the mother of an adult child! I have a 24 year old son, who got married in August and now tells me that this year they will be trying to start a family! At least he didn't do to me what I did to my parents, make them grandparents at age 40!! I'll be 45 in August, a perfect age to be a grandmother!

Thanks for the suggestion!

Have you thought about Hawaii? Maybe you can score some reasonably priced tickets online. Spend some quality time on the beach enjoying the um...scenery. ;o) Wherever you decide to go, hope it is the best vacation yet for you both. Enjoy! :o)

Well, a dude ranch is out if your still thinking that! Even in the Spring, Montana has tons of snow....(thought it would be fun last year for our Spring Break....and it is if you like snow) It all depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend. Do you want to spend "quality" time together? Than hiking and spending time being lazy together would do the trick. So....renting a cabin somewhere would be fun.... Or do you want to be busy with lots of things to see and do? Then maybe Miami?
Where ever you go...or whatever you decide to do...it's the thought that counts!

I may look into Hawaii, I've thought about it before, just not sure I have that kind of money in my budget.

The girl doesn't like snow, so a dude ranch in Montana is not going to work.

She doesn't like to just hang out in a hotel room, always wanting to do something, even if it's as simple as window shopping or a movie.

What's in Miami? What about Myrtle Beach? Or some other beach area on the east coast? Anyone know of any nice ones, that aren't expensive. I am still leaning towards NYC, but also am waiting for more suggestions!!

I've never been, but my wife said New Orleans was nice. It's mostly put back together, and warmer. NYC in March might still be below zero.

Later in the year I'd suggest a horseback/camping thing in Yosemite. Sunset had a photo story on that, and it looked really nice. But March is still snow there too.

Not sure what to do in New Orleans, unless it's Mardi Gras.. I know NYC will still be cold. Just found out that spring break is first week in April. I looked into Hawaii and it's too expensive, I also looked into a cruise, but also too much money. I did find a pretty good deal for hotel and flight (hotel is right in the city) plus, I found out that Hair will be on Broadway beginning in March and I LOVED that play, I think she would too...

So, it looks like NYC. Just have to firm up some plans for the boy to go somewhere, probably to my fathers or since my sister is moving to Phx, maybe he can stay with her.. I'll know more by the end of the month!
